The History of Lawrence County Young Life

2017

Micah Bell moves from Columbus, OH to start Young Life in Mohawk High School.
In the fall, Micah gets connected with the soccer team and begins coaching.

2019

First Mohawk Young Life event happens in the Spring with twelve kids attending a paint war.
Two leaders from Geneva College were placed on the Mohawk team.
The very first club event happened on December 9th in the MoCo House with fourteen kids in attendance.
The Mohawk team is spending time doing contact work at football games and focusing on meeting students.

2018

First Fall Weekend with four kids and leader development begins in Geneva and Westminster College.
Micah is hired as the head soccer coach at Mohawk.

2020 ​

Over 150 kids are known by name in Mohawk High School.
A great Campaigner Weekend trip turns into the very first Mohawk Campaigners starting up with four guys meeting in the Miller's basement.
Wilmington Young Life also begins with Westminster College students leading the team.
Mohawk Young Life begins to take off during Covid with outdoor campaigners, masked clubs with over 20 kids, and the very first camp trip to the Miller's family camp.

2021

Mohawk continued to grow with new kids coming to club.
Wilmington was running Campaigners and focusing on building the ministry up from the ground.
The first work crew kids served at Lake Champion that summer, and the largest camp trip to Wild Ridge for Mohawk had 17 high school students attend.
Fall Weekend trip of 20 kids between Mohawk and Wilmington.

2023

On January 15th, Jackson Miller is hired on Student Staff to replace Micah. Micah and Ali remain serving in Mohawk as volunteer leaders.
Grove City College lends help by sending some volunteer leaders to Wilmington with Jackson.
Micah and Jackson begin working toward building an adult committee for the area and the first committee meeting is held on May 17th.
12 kids went to Lake Champion that summer for Camp and in the Fall, the first golf outing fundraiser raised over $6,500.
36 kids and leaders went to Fall Weekend in November as minsitry began to grow in Mohawk again.

2022

Wilmington and Mohawk take kids to Campaigner Weekend in February and then 10 kids to Camp at Timberwolf that summer.
The Wilmington team thins out to just Jackson by October of 2022 with ministry struggling in Mohawk as well.
On October 31st, Micah serves his last day as the Area Director of Young Life.
Ministry in the area consisted of 3 leaders between 2 schools.

2024

The first Neshannock interest meeting is held in the Spring with the first fundraising banquet raising over $16,500.
On April 1st, Jackson Miller is hired on full-time staff as the new Area Director for Young Life.
Westminster and Geneva leader development is happening and the adult committee is growing with Laurel developments as well.
Neshannock Young Life begins over the summer with its first campaigners being held on June 17. First club is held on July 15th with twenty students.
By the Fall, Wilmington Young Life closed due to lack of leaders and community support. Neshannock and Mohawk were growing and the first Cobblehaus fundraiser raised over $10,000.

2025

By the Spring of 2025, ministry had taken off in Mohawk and Neshannock.
Neshannock WyldLife began with parent leaders leading the minsitry. Club was a success from the start with the first WyldLife club taking place at the Harlan's with over 60 kids.
51 kids and leaders attended Campaigner Weekend marking the largest trip ever for Lawrence County by a longshot.
All-Area clubs of over 40+ kids happened and there were more kids known by name than ever.
More adults were involved and familiar with the mission. More volunteer leaders were being trained and more kids were being impacted than ever before.
By the Fall, all area clubs of over 65+ kids were taking place as Laurel Young Life also began running campaigners.
Fall Weekend had 56 kids and leaders in attendance. However, the struggle to find volunteer leaders became more and more real as the number of kids engaged with Young Life grew.
